Description

Texas Ballet Theater's (TBT) mission is to create, present, and tour world-class ballet, from classical to cutting-edge, and promote its appreciation, accessibility, and technical mastery among students, pre-professionals, and audiences of all ages. Texas Ballet Theater proudly serves as a leader for the arts and cultural vibrancy of North Texas, operating as the only dual-resident company for both the Winspear Opera House on the AT&T Performing Arts Center Campus in Dallas and Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth. TBT increases access to the arts and arts education through high-quality training, professional ballet performances, and Community Enrichment programs that partner with local school districts to connect marginalized populations with ballet. In the previous season, TBT served nearly 121,000 individuals across North Texas. Founded in 1961, TBT just completed its 63rd year. In 1995, predecessor organizations, Dallas Ballet and Fort Worth Ballet, consolidated to form the Fort Worth Dallas Ballet. In 2003, Artistic Director Ben Stevenson, O.B.E. began his tenure, and the organization rebranded as Texas Ballet Theater. In 2023, Tim O’Keefe began his tenure as Artistic Director. Texas Ballet Theater School (TBTS) has locations in Fort Worth, Dallas, and Richardson. In a typical year, TBT employs more than 380 individuals and operates out of administrative offices and studios in Fort Worth, Dallas, and Richardson, performs at resident venues in Fort Worth and Dallas, and provides ballet education programs at no cost to Title 1 schools in school districts throughout the region. As the region’s premier ballet company, Texas Ballet Theater serves North Texas through the organization’s three priority areas of art, access, and education. Community Enrichment Programming - TBT offers four Community Enrichment programs, each meant to address unique needs in our community. CityDance, Student Experiences, Dance Extension, and Adaptive Dance programs deepen the opportunities to learn and expanding our reach to serve a greater number of students. TBT partners with healthcare professionals at Children’s Healthcare System to facilitate Adaptive Dance classes for Texas Ballet Theater School students with Down syndrome and similar diagnoses. TBT's Community Enrichment programs specifically target youth in under-resourced areas. Our CityDance program, an after-school initiative, provides ballet instruction to over 1,400 students across North Texas, with nearly 90% of these students being people of color. Each CityDance participant receives a complimentary ticket to a mainstage performance for themselves and a parent or guardian, allowing both generations to enjoy the art of ballet together. Over 33,000 students and 200 adults attended these performances this past year.

Call for Proposals: Site-Specific Outdoor Sculpture

Call to Artists
The Alexandria Museum of Art in downtown Alexandria, Louisiana issues a call to artists for a site-specific sculpture to be installed on the museum property as part of an NEA funded project related to Environmental Impact. The wish is for a fence type structure to mask the view of a transformer box and offer a more pleasing border to the levee side of the parking lot, while also adding another outdoor sculpture to the museum site. The museum is seeking an artist to create a sculpture with durable recycled materials (such as metal and glass) appropriate for an outdoor public sculpture. Other materials could be utilized, but recycled/repurposed materials must be included. Additionally, the sculpture should be stable and supported by posts/legs imbedded in the ground at the base of the levee adjacent to the parking lot for the foundation of the sculpture. A design that is organic in nature is preferred to a straight fence. The work does not need to be opaque, but should draw the viewers gaze to the work rather than what lies behind the sculpture. Involving volunteers in the creation and installation is welcomed. Photos of the location indicating the site of the proposed sculpture and approximate dimensions are on page two and three of this document. The winning proposal will be selected by a committee consisting of: Members of the curatorial team from the museum, the board chair, a representative from LSUA (the university AMoA is affiliated with), and an architect from Barron, Heinberg & Brocato Architects (the designer of the modern addition to the museum and the designer of a levee restoration project current improvements behind the installation).
