About

Erin Botsford is a multidisciplinary artist originally from Saint Paul, Minnesota. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Viterbo University, where she developed a love for experimentation across painting, illustration, and mixed media practices. Working primarily in acrylic, oil, and collage, Erin explores expressive mark-making, layered textures, and intuitive composition. Her work is driven by a sensitivity to shape, color relationships, and visual rhythm, often balancing abstraction with narrative elements. Influenced by surrealist portraiture, illustration, and contemporary abstract art, she creates pieces that feel both playful and emotionally resonant. Through an evolving practice that embraces curiosity and process, Erin’s work moves fluidly between abstract painting, figurative experimentation, and mixed media storytelling.

Artist Statement

My work explores the relationship between abstraction, storytelling, and play through acrylic, oil, collage, and mixed media. I am drawn to expressive mark-making, layered textures, and intuitive composition, often allowing pieces to evolve organically through experimentation. I am especially inspired by children’s artwork and forms of play — the spontaneity, emotional honesty, and imaginative way children interact with materials and create meaning through shape and color. My work moves between abstraction, illustration, surrealist portraiture, and collage, often balancing expressive forms with narrative elements. Through layering, experimentation, and improvisation, I hope to create work that feels emotionally resonant, curious, and alive with possibility.
