About

My first exposure to pottery was when I returned to college after being discharged from the Army in Aug 1970. I decided to go to Western Ill University instead of returning to the University if Il. Much smaller school. Friend invited me to an evening class, so I went. It was ceramics. Found I could actually center a ball of clay with ease and I was hooked. I secured my BA Degree in Ceramics with a minor in Art History. (Discovered I liked Art History as well.) Unfortunately I was unable to continue until much later. Ended up working in Insurance as a field claims adjuster and later became a Liability adjuster handling Personnel and Commercial losses. Wrapped up that career as a Claims Litigation Supervisor. During the last few years, I took an adult class in ceramics at TCU and never looked back. As soon as the opportunity hit to pursue my MFA in Ceramics I took it. Earned my MFA in Ceramics with a Minor in Art History (MA) at Texas Woman's University. I was a graduate assistant and later an adjunct professor. I've been a full time potter for the last 25+ years.

Artist Statement

Not much to say other than I like creating pottery. The only thing I dislike is making my own clay. It is now to labor intense for me. The biggest thrill is, when I open the kiln from a glaze firing and see the result of my labors. Anyone who has ever created a piece of pottery will understand. My forms are wheel thrown and mainly functional. My designs are influences by Frank Lloyd Wright's work and with the work from the Dada movement and Art Deco movement. My designs are applied by the Tape Resist technique. I brush on the Under Glazes (Colours) and spray the other glazes that are used. I stay clear of all toxins.
