About

I’m Jose — the crochet designer and CroBro behind No Way Jose Crochet. What started as me just wanting to make something with my hands turned into something way bigger than I expected. Crochet wasn’t just a hobby for me — it became a creative outlet, a challenge, and eventually a business. I was drawn to amigurumi and character design pretty quickly. I’ve always loved nostalgia, color, and pieces that make people smile. Crochet gave me a way to bring those ideas to life — stitch by stitch. As I grew more confident, I didn’t just want to follow patterns anymore. I wanted to design my own. Pattern design pushed me creatively and technically, and it changed everything. Now, I create original patterns that are fun to make, thoughtfully constructed, and designed with real customers and markets in mind. Selling at markets became another big turning point for me. There’s something different about watching someone connect with a piece you made. It taught me what works, what sells, and how to blend creativity with strategy. Through No Way Jose Crochet, I share the full journey — from designing patterns and prepping for markets to building a handmade brand from the ground up. I want other makers to see that crochet can be modern, expressive, and even profitable. At the end of the day, this isn’t just about yarn. It’s about building something meaningful — and proving that creativity can open doors you never expected.

Artist Statement

My work explores nostalgia, character design, and the reinvention of crochet as a contemporary art form. Working primarily in amigurumi, I create playful, color-forward pieces that spark familiarity and joy while challenging traditional expectations of fiber art. As a crochet pattern designer and market vendor, I balance artistic expression with thoughtful construction and functionality. Each piece is designed not only to be visually engaging, but to be accessible, reproducible, and meaningful beyond the making process. As a male fiber artist, I’m also interested in expanding who feels represented in this space. Through bold design and intentional craftsmanship, my goal is to show that crochet can be modern, expressive, and economically empowering.
