About

I’ve always believed that there is a certain kind of magic in the "moody" side of life. Most people know me by my brand, Susie Skull, a name that carries a lot of heart for me, as Susie was nickname my grandmother gave me, but the person behind the work is a blend of grit, grace, and a heavy dose of 90s alternative spirit. I’ve carved out a life that celebrates the "slow make" and the intentional. When I’m not in my studio jamming out to my favorite 90s alternative, you can usually find me leaning into the things that keep me grounded. I’m a plant lover at heart. I’m a baker who appreciates the patience required for a good sourdough (shoutout to my starter, Pablo). And I’m a lifelong reader who still finds the ultimate escape in the pages of a good book. My perspective is unapologetically Gen X. I grew up on grunge and a DIY ethos that tells me if you can’t find the beauty you’re looking for in the world, you should probably just make it yourself.

Artist Statement

My work is an exploration of the space where the rugged meets the refined. Under the name Susie Skull, a tribute to the nickname given to me by my grandmother, I create pieces that embrace a 'dark and delicate' aesthetic. I am drawn to materials that require a physical, tactile process: the weight of hand-poured cement, the precision of sculpted polymer clay, and the clarity of resin. Heavily influenced by a Gen X alternative sensibility and a love for moody, Victorian-inspired storytelling, my goal is to create objects that feel both modern and timelessly curious. Whether I am crafting a botanical trinket dish or a piece of statement jewelry, I am motivated by the beauty found in the unconventional. For me, the 'slow make' is a way to bridge the gap between grit and grace, offering handmade treasures for those who find comfort in the shadows and magic in the details.
