About

Sabrinah Chappell is a Fort Worth–based mixed media artist and sculptor whose work drifts between the natural world and underwater fantasy. Inspired by coral reefs, hidden coves, and imagined treasures beneath the sea, she creates richly textured works using ethically sourced and hand-collected materials including shells, barnacles, crystals, driftwood, and geodes. Blending organic elements with antique objects such as candlesticks, teapots, and porcelain dolls transformed into whimsical “mermades,” Sabrinah builds immersive pieces that feel both ancient and enchanted. Her work invites viewers into a dreamlike world where oceanic beauty, curiosity, and fantasy coexist.

Artist Statement

The ocean has always felt like both a memory and a fantasy to me; A place filled with mystery, beauty, and endless curiosity. My work is an expression of that longing, the daydreams of a finless mermaid finding tiny seaside kingdoms, magical creatures, and forgotten relics hidden beneath the waves. Through sculpture and mixed media, I create layered underwater worlds using ethically sourced and hand-collected materials from the earth and sea, including shells, barnacles, driftwood, crystals, and geodes. I’m drawn to “old” objects that carry history and character, often incorporating antique and vintage pieces such as candlesticks and teapots into my work. My favorite revivals are my porcelain dolls, which I disassemble and transform into whimsical “mermades” with seashell crowns. My process is highly intuitive, and detail driven. I build each piece slowly, allowing the natural textures and forms to guide the composition until it feels like something discovered rather than created, like a relic washed ashore or a sunken treasure from a ship lost at sea. I’m drawn to the edge between beauty and decay, balance and imperfection, fairy tales and the natural world. My work invites a sense of enchantment, meant to immerse you in an underwater realm where shimmer, texture, and storytelling connect you with ethereal, dream-like wonder and nostalgia.
