About

I am a Fort Worth native but spent a big part of my adult life living in New Mexico. I have degrees in English, History, and Geology from Texas Wesleyan and University of Texas at Arlington. My career started in 1987 teaching 7th grade English/Language Arts in El Paso, Texas. I have taught American History, Science, boater safety, sailing, and coached Sailboat racing. I have always had an interest in art and have painted since childhood. My interest in pottery started in 2020, by watching videos of potters working. In 2021, my wife and kids gave me pottery lessons with Garret Pendergrass Pottery Studio for Father’s Day. I have been throwing and learning about clay ever since. I started teaching towards the end of 2023. Teaching beginners to throw is an extraordinary joy for me. I am so fortunate to combine my love of teaching and my passion for creating.

Artist Statement

“If I could say it in words there would be no need to paint.” – Edward Hooper With my art, I express the beauty I see in simple lines and forms. My work does not strive to represent, but rather to express the way I want to see the world. From simple curves of the human body to the vivid hues of a landscape, I want the viewer to see beauty of the mundane. Life is a grand adventure because I choose to turn it into a kaleidoscope of experiences and emotions. I believe the story itself is not the product, but how it is told makes all the difference. My advantage of starting to make art later in life is that I already know the stories. I have heard the music. I have seen lots of stuff, but I still do not know how I feel about it.
