Artist Statement
As an artist, I aim to capture scenes and subjects I find beautiful with vibrant colors and loose blending techniques. I create my paintings with raw and often with bold colors. My creative process usually begins with me taking my own reference photos and sketching them. My reference photos often come from the beaches I have visited or food I find beautiful at the grocery store. I use acrylics to lay down a base, then I add to the vibrancy with oil paint layered on top. My colors often don’t exactly match the reference photo as I like to enhance the colors and increase the saturation. I hope to invoke a feeling of connection and happiness to my viewers through my use of colors and the subjects I choose to paint.
However, I do explore other mediums such as watercolor and charcoal. I don’t limit myself to one medium but rather decide which one would best portray my reference photo as to how I envision it. The looseness of watercolor, harshness of charcoal, or the softness of oils. After a few years of trial and error, I finally found my style. My style reflects my original ideas and my visions.
