About

Cut Throat Finches is a Fort Worth, Texas-based rock band formed in mid-2015 by singer-songwriter Sean Russell. Known for guitar-driven, socially conscious, and hook-laden music, "the sound you would hear if Oasis (UK) was from Texas", the band frequently releases vinyl-focused material through Hand Drawn Records and often only 1 min versions of songs on digital platforms for spite. Their sound is described as eclectic with a unique "Cowtown" glint often with fiddle and other folk instruments. Depending on the stage and lineup, the band can play big & loud or they might arrange as an all string folk band and present an intimate "mtv unplugged" style set. Band lineup: guitar, bass/ upright, drums, fidde, mandolin, organ/keys/piano, and righ vocal harmonies. • Formation: Founded in 2015 by Sean Russell following a career change and personal transition. • Sound: Described as "infectious guitar-driven pop" with, according to Twangville, lyrics that offer a pointed indictment of the toxic discourse that plagues the world today. • Key Releases: Released their sophomore album, Polite Conversation (2018), In Event f Moon Disaster (2019), Unraveled (2024), all of which were nominated for album of the year, and High Horse set to release in 2026. • Performance: They are staples in the North Texas music scene, performing at venues like House of Blues, Tulips, and the Granada Theater. Band has been awarded for best live band; best vocals, drums, keys; best Americana Act and were sent to London to represent the City of Ft Worth for The Texas Music Takeover tour. To the common ear, this band "sounds like" Tom Petty, Oasis, Kings of Leon, Wilco, and sometimes Ryan Bingham with new wave sensibility on a dusty pancake.
