Artist Statement
As an artist, I've always been interested in the line between how we imagine or remember things and what is truly there. Colors are more vivid, details can get a bit fuzzy, and we fill in gaps in our memories with stories and imaginations. In my work, I use painting and collage to depict the world around me skewed a bit closer to my own imagination of it. When it comes to subject matter, I'm primarily interested in flowers and landscapes, or drawing inspiration from stories and media. Petals more brightly colored than the true plant, a recollection of a city not quite true to life, or a visualization of words on a page. I want to invite people to compare my perception of reality to their own and consider how this subjectivity makes the world around us a lot more interesting.
