Artist Statement
I create in order to process my experiences and make discoveries. Through painting many layers, structuring, and restructuring the canvas, I journey through the fragments of memory. My work depicts abstracted imagery from nature and feelings of nostalgia and longing. A mood is created in each piece through form, light, and color. Aspects of the hills, lakes, pines, cliffs, and sand flow through my senses as I experience them both physically and imaginatively. Layers and brushstrokes cause forms to be washed-out and blurry, which points to the ephemeral nature of memory. I relate them to past moments captured in old, faded photographs or when familiar feelings of bliss pass through our consciousness. After exploring my work, I hope the viewer gains a similar sense of recognition and makes their own discoveries.
