My stitches are a way to work through the chaos in my brain. It feels comforting to create something by my own hands with a needle and some thread. I enjoy making pieces that can appear light and whimsical, but have deeper, darker layers weaved in. I enjoy using items that I find at thrift stores and estate sales to upcycle and breathe new life into otherwise discarded items. I was told once that hand embroidery is a very personal craft because the work comes from your heart, to your hands, to the material it has been embroidered on. I think that's one of the main reasons I feel so deeply about the work I do. Regardless of the tone of what I make, I am doing something that generations of my family have done. Not only does it bind me closer to them, it has bound me closer to others in my community.
